FAQs
What Level of Bulletproof Door Do I need for my home?
The most common levels of bulletproof doors for residential safe rooms are U.L. 752 Level 3 (stops 44 mag) followed by U.L. 752 Level 8, (stops 7.62 - AK-47 rounds). By far the level 3 door is more common for homes.
Do you also protect the walls?
Yes, we have full design services and have been creating safe rooms for many years. It is common to add wall armor to the walls, please see our page on Safe Rooms for more information on how they are made. In a lot of cases we can help the client choose a location in their home for the door that will not require much added protection to the walls. This is in the design phase.
How long does it take to get my doors made?
It normally takes 4-6 weeks from the time the finale drawings are approved to the time your doors will be shipped. (This depends of lock choices and customization requirements).
Can these security doors also protect my valuables when I’m not at home?
Yes, this is also some of the criteria we keep in mind if we are designing the security for our clients. It is fairly simple to create a door and locking system that can prevent burglars from getting access to your valuables when you are at work or on vacation.
What are the most common areas to add a safe room style door?
This depends on the size of your home and where you spend most of your time. If most cases, if you are only looking at one door, this would be for either your bedroom or master closet. However many of our clients have very large homes and want multiple areas protected. In that case some common choices are the bedroom door, closet door, office doors, or other areas where you spend the most time.
What’s the difference between a steel door and a composite bulletproof door?
Mainly the weight. To provide Level 3 protection with a steel door it requires at least 1/4” steel. This is very heavy compared to composite armor that we use. You can really feel the difference when you are opening and closing the door. We focused on keeping our doors as light as possible without compromising security. It makes the door feel normal and function normal. That’s what most people would prefer, and it’s safer if you have small children. For example a level 3 bullet resistant steel door generally weighs about 400 to 500 pounds, our doors are normally 150 to 200 pounds, very comparable to a solid hard wood door weight.
